Background
The research is motivated by the need in the hydropower industry to meet the demands of regulating capacity in the future grid with more intermittent power. By utilizing modern power electronics and advanced design methods and controllers for fast acting current control we can gain advantages in the hydropower energy conversion. are you doing this?
Aims
The aim is to improve the performance of Hydropower systems using new technologies, such as power electronics, and devices for grid services. We work to make sure Hydropower continues to provide the system services needed to incorporate other renewable energy technologies and system support.
Approaches
Using both mathematical tools, simulation and experiment as well as full scale measurements when necessary, we cover all aspects of the system dynamics.
We aim to test smaller systems in our labs, and then implement them on a larger scale in pilot installations and tests with industry. Both to demonstrate novel technologies, and to build competence in the industry.
