High efficiency thin film solar cells
The division of Solar Cell Technology is part of the Department of Materials Science, Ångström Laboratory. The research within the division of Solar Cell Technology is dedicated to fundamental understanding as well as development of effective and low-cost solar cells based on thin film technologies, but also takes a broader perspective towards systems and sustainability.
The focus is on materials containing chalcogens such as sulfur and selenium, e.g. (Ag,Cu)(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS and ACIGS) and Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTS), but also inorganic perovskites, such as ZrBaS3. In 2022, the excellence center SOLVE was founded, which is coordinated by the division, see https://www3.uu.se/forskning/solve/. SOLVE is a cross disciplinary project, partly funded by the Swedish Energy Agency, dealing with many aspects of solar cell research. The division is part of several EU-projects as well as other national projects, e.g. funded by the EU, VR, Swedish Energy Agency and WISE.
