Energy history and sociotechnical challenges
The Energy History research group engages in historical and socio-technical analyses of ongoing energy challenges in Sweden, Europe and the world, and energy's intertwinement with non-energetic societal changes. Applying methods from the humanities and social sciences, the group comprises experts from the history of technology, environmental history, science and technology studies (STS), environmental humanities and related academic fields.
The group has a strong track record of publishing articles in leading journals and books with leading international publishers, dealing with virtually all types of energy sources and systems, from coal and oil to nuclear power and renewables, while also participating actively in the public debate in Sweden and internationally. The group is also involved in teaching with close links to our research, featuring courses such as “Energy Systems in Society” and “Energy and Geopolitics”.
