Europe seeks to compete with Asia in electric vehicles

The demand for electric vehicles is booming worldwide. Governments in Europe are making plans to phase out fuel-burning cars. But there are warnings the continent’s economy risks falling behind if it allows Asia to dominate the development and sale of batteries. Now a continent-wide research programme is fighting to avoid its transport industry from becoming reliant on imports.
